Some concerns have been expressed regarding the wording of the last paragraph on Festival Registration Forms (located at the back of the Syllabus). We require this paragraph to be signed and as it is already published in the Syllabus, we need your help in alerting participants, teachers and parents/legal guardians as to their options.
The three components which a participant, teacher or parent/legal guardian may agree or disagree with are:
1. The undersigned (participant, parent/legal guardian or teacher) consents to and authorizes the use of his/her name
2. The undersigned (participant, parent/legal guardian or teacher) consents to and authorizes the use of images
3. The undersigned (participant, parent/legal guardian or teacher) consents to be contacted by e- mail and social media with information about the Festival.
The Board of Directors asks that at Registration, or during other conversations, Section Heads suggest that the participant, parent/legal guardian or teacher draw a line through the phrase or statement(s) with which they disagree, initial, and then sign the Registration Form. As an example, if the participant agrees to have his/her photograph taken and does not mind his/her name being used BUT does not want to be contacted by e-mail, he/she would draw a line through the phrase 'and also consents to be contacted by e-mail and social media by Festival with information about Festival'.
We also request:
• that you be aware that although our language says 'participant', that participant should be 19
years or older if he/she is giving permission for photographs and names to be used, otherwise a
parent/legal guardian should sign on behalf of the participant
• teachers of individual students must ensure that parents sign the form whether giving or denying permission for the students' names and/or images to be used by Festival
• teachers of groups should draw a line through the clause 'and also consents to and authorizes the use of his/her name and/or images.......records.” as it appears on the form.
